The rate of suicide among the elderly is 50 percent higher than that of the general population. And it continues to climb. For some people, suicide is becoming a ritualized way to die with dignity. Virginia Commonwealth University gerontologist Nancy Osgood, author of Sucide in Later Life, discusses these disturbing trends, the warning signs and what can be done about it.
